God Creates the Animals and Rests Bible story for kids

Can you hear that? Oh my goodness — listen! The world is waking up!

God had already made the sky and the sea and the land and the stars. But now... now came the really fun part.

"Let the waters swarm with living creatures," said God. "And let birds fly across the sky!"

And just like that — splash! — up came the fish! Silver ones and golden ones. Tiny ones no bigger than your pinky finger, and great big ones as long as a bus. They tumbled and swirled through the deep blue water.

And the birds! Oh, the birds! Eagles soaring high, high, high. Little sparrows hopping on branches. Pelicans with their big silly beaks — flap, flap, flap. The whole sky was full of wings.

And God saw every swimmer and every soaring wing. It was good.

But He wasn't done yet.

The very next day, God said, "Let the land bring forth living creatures!"

And out they came — like a great, wonderful parade.

Here come the cows — moo! The sheep — baa! The horses galloping — clip-clop, clip-clop. Then the creeping things... caterpillars inching along, little beetles with shiny shells, ladybugs landing on leaves.

Then the big ones. Lions with their golden manes. Elephants swinging their trunks. Giraffes stretching their long, long necks up to the treetops.

Can you picture it? The whole world... full. Buzzing. Singing. Splashing. alive.

And then... God did one more thing. Not one more fish. Not one more bird. Not one more animal joining the parade.

God made people — a man and a woman — in His very own image. They could know Him, speak with Him, and care for the noisy, wonderful world He had made. God blessed them and gave them plants for food and the whole wide earth as their home.

God looked at everything He had made. The fish. The birds. The animals. The people. All of it.

And God saw that it was very good.

Not just good. very good.

And then... something surprising happened.

God stopped.

Not because God was tired. He wasn't tired at all. God ceased His creating work because it was finished. Everything He meant to make was there, and it was beautiful.

On the seventh day... God rested. Fish still swam. Birds still flew. Lions still stretched in the grass. But the Maker's work of creating was complete.

So God blessed that quiet day and made it holy.

And God was with him. God was with her. God is with you, too.

May the God who filled the world with wings, fins, paws, and people fill you with wonder at His creation.
